High frequency oscillation in photonic crystal nanolasers
We observed modulated oscillations in lasers of up to 130 GHz by conducting frequency domain measurements on photonic crystal lasers with built-in saturable absorbers. This is an example of how the small volumes of photonic crystal lasers lead to increases in the internal modulation frequencies and enables dramatic improvements of the laser modulation rate. © 2004 American Institute of Physics....
متن کاملAmplitudes of stochastically excited oscillations in main-sequence stars
We present estimates of the amplitudes of intrinsically stable stochastically excited radial oscillations in stars near the main sequence. The amplitudes are determined by the balance between acoustical energy generation by turbulent convection (the Lighthill mechanism) and linear damping. Convection is treated with a time-dependent, nonlocal, mixing-length model, which includes both convective...
متن کاملSolar-Like Oscillations in β Hydri: Evidence for Short-Lived High-Amplitude Oscillations
Velocity measurements of the G2 subgiant β Hyi with both UCLES and CORALIE show a clear excess of power centred at 1.0mHz. In the UCLES data we find evidence for a short-lived, high-amplitude oscillation event. If confirmed as a feature of subgiants, such ‘starquakes’ would make it harder to measure accurate mode frequencies and perform asteroseismology.
متن کاملSustained oscillations via coherence resonance in SIR.
Sustained oscillations in a stochastic SIR model are studied using a new multiple scale analysis. It captures the interaction of the deterministic and stochastic elements together with the separation of time scales inherent in the appearance of these dynamics. The nearly regular fluctuations in the infected and susceptible populations are described via an explicit construction of a stochastic a...
متن کاملSustained oscillations in extended genetic oscillatory systems.
Various dynamic cellular behaviors have been successfully modeled in terms of elementary circuitries showing particular characteristics such as negative feedback loops for sustained oscillations. Given, however, the increasing evidences indicating that cellular components do not function in isolation but form a complex interwoven network, it is still unclear to what extent the conclusions drawn...
